It Was All Down Hill From There

After we went to Machu Picchu the rest of the trip was up in the ari
we really didn't have a plan
all we knew was that we wanted to make it to Lake Titicaca
we trained it and taxied it back to the main city Cuzco
where we planed on getting an over night bus to Puno
the city where the lake is
well the ligit bus company didn't have an overnight but to Puno
they only bus they had left at 8 am everyday
so we made the decision to stay overnight in Cuzco
and boy were we glad we did
It was such a cool place
we really had no idea how neat it actually was
we spend the afternoon shopping around in the markets and in the supermarket
Peru is sooo cheap so we got a lot of stuff for penny's!
that night we decided that we were going to try to change our bus ticket and spend another day
but when we got to the station that morning they wouldn't let us
so we were off to Puno on a luxury bus
Our bus ride was a tour type ride it stopped along the way at different places
it was kind of expensive but we were all really glad we did it
we stopped at some cool places that we would not have seen other wise.
along the way we saw lots of old churches and we also got to hold a baby lamb
ahh it was so cute
funny story to go along with that
we were all taking turns hold it after I held it I passed it on to Tawni and she was holding it really funny so Phil tells her to hold it like you mean it and she just go and squeezes it tighter
its probably one of those things where you needed to be there for it to actually be funny but we seriously laughed about that the rest of the week.
Soo we get to Puno really late that evening find a hostel get some food and head to bed
we had been waking up early so much that week by the time 10 o'clock came around we were all dead tired!
the next morning we decided to "sleep" in but our sleep in was like 7 on this trip
so we were up and going around 8 o'clock and we headed to the dock yard to catch a boat out to the floating islands
this place is so neat!
people actually live on these islands made of dirt and straw that float in the lake.
on our boat ride the guy showed us how they make the islands
it was so simple and easy
but there is no way I could explain it to you again
anyways we got to walk around on a couple of the islands and see where they lived and stuff
it was so neat they still live in little huts without electricity or running water
its just one little room where they sleep and their kitchen is out side somewhere separate.
at one of the islands it was kinda of touristy they had a little market and a restaurant
the food looked so good out there
it was fresh fish, rice and potatoes my mouth was watering looking at people eating it
also on this island you could spend the night
they had a little hostel with 2 rooms
it was really cute looking we really wanted to do it but we just simply didn't have enough time
after the island toour was over we had the rest of the day and the next to just look around Puno
we found out for the most part it was a pretty boring city but it sum up the rest of our time there we ~went to a really old boat that took 6 years to get from Europe to the lake,
~we walked around for ever to find a Coca museum yep that's the leave they make cocaine out of,
~we saw lots of protesting going on and on our last day in the city we were going to the restaurant to eat lunch when a protest was coming right toward us all the stores were shutting their doors so we took off running to our restaurant and got in right before they pulled down the metal doors.
~we hiked up 4000 and something feet above sea level to a condor statue. it was really rough walking up there you don't realize how the altitude affects you until your doing something strenuous
that was all the excitement that we had in Puno our next stop was Arequipa
we had a 6 hour bus ride from Puno to Arequipa
but that is another post for another hour!

Im going to probably finish up today with the trip
but since I have so much to say Im going to break they up so there not so long!
